As a school counselor, it is important to have a clear understanding of the mandated reporting requirements for the state in which you practice. Staying up-to-date on required training for mandated reporting should be a fundamental component of your professional practice.

Complete the designated mandated reporting training for the state in which you will complete your practicum. The training length with vary by state, be sure to allocate the appropriate amount of time to complete it.

As you complete the training, consider the following:

Procedures for reporting child abuse and/or neglect

Laws related to your state’s reporting procedures

Ways to keep children safe, community resources, and methods for prevention and collaboration.
