You should identify and describe an operation of your choice based on any business that you are familiar with. You can select a business that you work for or operate, but this is not essential. You can select an established well-known organisation or a business local to your area, regardless of the size. Assume that you have recently been employed by this business as the Operations Management Trainee and your priority task is to create a report that will help the company with its recovery and business continuity strategy post-Covid 19, with your scope focused on contributing to a new operations management plan.
Requirement
You should write a report that addresses the following:
a) Describe the business’s core product or service, market, customer base and competitors?
b) What is the business’s apparent operations strategy based on how it sources, produces and provides its products and/or services?
c) Describe and visually illustrate the business’s operation model (i.e., its main processes and how it delivered its products or services) prior to Covid-19 pandemic.
d) Critically discuss the relevance and impact that key operations management themes covered in this module, as itemised below, can play in the design and development of the business’s operations, particularly illuminating how the organisation can utilise the theories, techniques, tools and models covered in the themes to adapt to a new way of operating in order to continue to meet its business needs:
i. Contribution of operations management to the organisation’s strategic objectives
ii. Design and analysis of the processes
iii. Design of layouts and facilities
iv. Innovating on products and services
v. Managing the operation’s supply chain
vi. Planning and controlling the operation
vii. Managing quality and improving the operation’s performance

e) Drawing on direct examples from yours and your colleagues’ contributions to the weekly shared activities, reflect on the concepts of operations management that you have learnt and suggest how your new knowledge can help you achieve your first assignment as a trainee.
