Assignment: Post this mini project and review another classmates project by replying.
Step 1: Choose 1 cultural style of your choice. ((This will be different than Art Historical Movements and will relate to African (do not use Egyptian), Asian, Oceanic, Indigenous North American art. ))
Note: Do not select European or American art for this assignment. Use only non-western based art is accepted. (Do not us Egypt as it influenced Greek (i.e. western art.)
You may wish to look ahead at Modules 12 and 13 before doing this assignment to gain a clear idea of your choices.
Step 2: Create a list of 10 helpful locations/URL’s (web addresses) which contain historical examples of the type of cultural work you selected – do not use commercially oriented sites. google.com might be your search engine but is not the location of info. (Or you may use 10 books)
Step 3: Select 2 examples from the work you have researched and develop a 2 paragraph comparison essay.
Important Note: Include titles – properly formatted (this means italics for paintings, sculpture or photographs), artists’ names when known, dates, cultural information, historical background, materials used and classify the work as painting, architecture, sculpture or other.
Important Note: You may use costumes, textiles, visual culture, totems, baskets or ceramics, glass, architecture as well as pieces traditionally placed within the fine arts category for example paintings, sculpture or related.
