ER4104 Advanced Topics in Industry Assignment – University of Central Lancashire, UK
Learning Outcomes –
Learning Outcome 1 – Research, analyse, integrate, apply and present detailed design proposals.
Learning Outcome 2 – Use appropriate technical terminology to describe basic design concepts.
Learning Outcome 3 – Develop technical competence and skills in generation and adaption of design ideas.
Assessment Task – ‘Lutron is an industry focused IoT application development company that develops diverse IoT for different industries to support a wide range of systems and computing environment. One of the future objectives of Lutron is to be a leading company on smart IoT technologies in cyber-physical domains using the principles of Automation of Everything (AoE) within Industry 4.0.
You have been asked as an engineer in the ‘Lutron company, to design a smart blind system and show the viability of such a system in order to make Lutron a leading company in the market on blind systems. In this manner,
Provide a detailed, professional report for your company that contains the following:
Part 1 – A review/insight of various smart blind systems in the market by comparing their advantages and disadvantages. This review should include all the necessary components of AoE.
Part 2 – Design a new smart blind system within the concept of AoE. Use flowchart to support your design.
Part 3 – Build an application using Fuzzy logic for this smart blind system to establish an autonomous decision making. You can use any programming language you are comfortable with. This smart application is supposed to input:
1) The required Wisdom as a Service (WaaS) and Information as a Service (InaaS) from the smart domains in the cloud platform, particularly from smart city in a pay-as -you -go model,
2) Data from local sensors, and
3) Data from customer’s preferences,
4) In order to result in how much the window is ought to be closed/opened as an output.
Part 4 – Develop an interface test platform in order to show that your system is working as desired and ready to be incorpora ted into any blind system using the fuzzy logic built in Section 3. This platform:
1) Inputs the specific values given in 3 -(i), 3 -(ii) and 3 -(iii) above and results the output given in 3 -(iv) above,
2) Gives both the aggregated output fuzzy set and defuzzified output in a figure. An example developed in 2018 for a washing machine in this module is given in Figure 1.
Part 5 – Explain all the fuzzy logic components (e.g., inference method, membership functions) employed in your application using required scientific terms.
Part 6 – Explain why a customer should buy your blind system, what makes your blind system head and shoulders over the other off-the -shelf smart blind systems reviewed in Section 1.
Part 7 – Discuss the 5G communication technology along with terahertz, milimeterwave, massive -mimo, NOMA and VLC-v isible light communication regarding AoE and comment on how these technologies will revolutionize the industry in the following 10 years.
