Final project summary:

The final project is an individual assessment and has four parts: Part A requires each student to select one of the topics discussed in lectures and write a research report. The  topic  can  either  be  selected  from  the  research  proposal  you  prepared  in  the  major assignment  or  use a  new  topic.  This assignment  will  outline  a  research  project  that  you would be required to complete in this semester by collecting data empirically. Note that the final project  is  different  from  the  major  group  assignment  as  the  major  assignment  is  a research  proposal where  you  will  outline  how  project  would  look  like  if  it  is  undertaken  in future. But in this final assessment, you are required to collect data empirically, report findings, and write contributions of your study based on empirical findings. You will need to find a gap in the literature relating to your chosen topic. The report will describe how this gap could be filled. An objective of this assessment is to see whether students are able to conduct a research project (even a small scale!) by identifying a research gap in the literature, collect empirical data, and report  their empirical  findings.  Furthermore, it  will  also  display  student’s  ability  to  link  that project with the overall learnings objectives they learnt from the unit. Whatever  topics  you  select,  please  make  sure  topics  are  linked  with  accounting,  accounting professions, accountants, or accounting students, or auditors. 

Individual Assignment: 

This is  an  individual  assignment  to  be  submitted  individually  by  each  student.  Each student is required to select their own topic with due care and professionally, and work hard individually, and prepare this assessment. Of course, you are allowed to share your ideas, and progress of this assignment with the unit convenor time to time. For the final project, you can select  topic  from  your  major  group  assignment  as  well, but  please  make  sure  your  topic  is different  from  other  group  members  worked  before  for  the  major  group  assignment.  The differences  can  be  achieved  in  different  ways,  for  example,  sample  size  difference,  industry difference, contextual differences, or even mode of data collection difference.  Structure of the report (Written part- Weighting 13%):A.  The  report  typically  adheres  to  the  following structure:  Your  assignment  must  have following components. You will need to complete the following sections for writing the assignment. 

1. Write an introduction: In this section, you must provide sufficient background information to enable a reader to understand the motivations for your research project. Additionally, you are  required  to  discuss  your  point  of  view  as  to  why  the  research  you  are  conducting  is important  and  how  it  is  important.  Synthesis  of  some  numerical  information,  supporting opinions and contrasting points of view should be included.

2. Research objectives and the research questions: In this section, you will clearly state what you want to achieve through your research study and what the research questions your study will seek to answer.

3. Identify the theoretical framework(s)/ theory and justify your chosen framework/theory appropriateness in the research project.

4. Review the relevant literature (prior academic studies) on your topic area. In this section, you will collect and synthesize recent research articles and papers (preferably published after 2015) relatedto your topic area which will demonstrate your ability to read, think. Principally, in this section you will develop argument critically and outline how previous studies findings in the literature are either inadequate or are providing an incomplete picture on  the  topic  under  investigation.  That  is  why  your  study  is  required  to  fill  up  the  gap.  You should include at least 5 previous articles published not less than 3 years ago.

5. Describe the research method used in the topic and critically evaluate why proposedmethods are appropriate for your project. In  this section, you  will  clearly  state  how  have  you  collected  data  for  your  research  project empirically. Note that data can be collected through various ways. For example, data can be collected through interviews, survey questionnaires, experiments or based on publicly available information. Other information such as who were your respondents, where have you collected data (e.g., Australia or other places), mode of data collection (online or face to face) are to be mentioned as well.  Please add survey questionnaire or interview questions in the appendix.

6. Discuss the findings of study. In this section, you will describe clearly key findings and results of your study. You should discuss here any statistical results in a table (if you have), hypotheses testing results (if you have) or interview findings, or results from experiments or any other findings originates from secondary sources of data collection. 

7. Discuss the implications (both academic and practical) of your research. In this section, you will describe value of your study’s finding. This value/implication will be both in the academic level as well for practitioners. In other words, how different stakeholders will be benefited by readying your study and knowing your study’s results. In this section you should also state any limitations of the research study and any future research direction. Limitations can be arisen for various reasons, (e.g., one industry you covered, small sample size, small number of interviews, only one context (Say Australia Only, Or India only, Or China only).
