2. a) A proposed flood protection embankment construction site required 30000m³ of soil in compacted state, at a unit weight of 20.00 kN/m³, at a water content of 14%. Two sites are being considered for “borrow” soil. The in-situ unit weight of the soil of the first site is 15.00 kN/m³; water content was found to be 13%. On the second site the unit weight of the soil was found to be 17.5 kN/m³ and its water content 14%. The cost for the “borrow” material was based on volumes of soil required from the respective sites. Select the site that requires lower cost. Assume specific gravity Gs = 2.65 for each site.
