Assessment Brief: Assignment
You are required to write a 1500 word overview on Palliative Care. As part of the overview, you should discuss the principles of palliative care, the different attitudes towards death and the importance of how a carer promotes privacy, self-esteem and dignity to patients. You should also discuss the organisation of palliative care services and the crucial part the carers and family members play in the provision of care for a terminally ill person.
You should address the following as part of your response:
- Discuss the principles and philosophy of Palliative Care. (5 marks)
- Summarise the structure and organisation of Palliative Care services. Include the roles played by both the multi-disciplinary team and the diverse family structures in the provision of care for a terminally ill patient. (5 marks)
- Discuss the role of the support worker in the promotion of key issues such as life quality, self-esteem, respect, privacy and dignity in Palliative Care work. (10 marks)
- Explore the different attitudes to death and dying held by caregivers, family members and any other persons involved in the care of the dying person. Include an understanding of individual patterns of grief, bereavement and loss. (10 marks)
