Background Scenario
After success in winning a number of government grants for a large developer client your company ‘GAIA ENERGY CONUSLTANTS’ has been employed by the UK government to develop a low to zero carbon housing scheme that will embrace sustainable construction principles and good practice throughout its design. and construction. In addition, it is intended that it can act as a ‘testbed’ for new sustainable construction technologies. If successful, it would form a ‘model’ for future UK sustainable construction. You have been tasked with producing a report addressing certain aspects of the development.
Development Details
The land area is Hectares and currently contains concrete ‘pre-fab’ single storey detached houses constructed during the late 1940’s along with approximately of concrete roads. In addition to this the area also includes a large area of open parkland. The whole site is bordered mainly by open farmland along with a small border to the urban conurbation of Blexminster. The area is around 75m above sea level and the land drops down to the River Blex which runs about 450m to the north of the site (note the site is not on the floodplain). It is intended to build 95 no detached single storey properties to Passive House principles. Also on the site is an area has been reserved for developmental purposes (Environmental Community Development Area).
