Students will be able to discuss the necessary elements of medication instruction, including purpose or indication; review of dose, route, frequency, and duration of use; side effects, when to seek medical attention, and signs of overdose; home safety precautions; safe disposal of unused medication; client/caregiver understanding of the information provided/teach-back; and documentation of education and handouts or other materials provided and client’s understanding of the
teaching.
