Criteria
Introduction

Thesis
A thesis is included directly after the Introduction; these 2 items make up Paragraph 1. The thesis answers the questions given. See Documents provided in Module with the Essay.
Topic Sentence
There is a topic sentence in each body paragraph referencing, not repeating word for word, the idea in the thesis to be discussed in this paragraph. See Documents provided in Module with the Essay.
Quote
There is 1 quote only from an outside, credible, scholarly source in each body paragraph. The quote is introduced, enclosed in quotations, and has a correct in-text citation at the end. The 12 sentence minimum does not include the quote since you didn’t write that language. See Documents provided in Module with the Essay.
Analysis
Each quote in each body paragraph has been interpreted by the writer and tied to the topic sentence and thesis. The writer is explaining the author’s Point of View in the writer’s own language without copying the language or tone of the original author. The writer has followed the directions given and is explaining, demonstrating, or creating a new argument, or explaining and supporting the assertions made in the rest of the body paragraph. The Words to Avoid have been deleted and more specific ideas have replaced them. Levels of Complexity are used as appropriate. Grammar errors are included here. Transition
The last sentence of each body paragraph is a clear transition that previews the coming idea without repeating language word for word from the thesis or topic sentences. In the final body paragraph, the writer may preview the restatement of the thesis, or wrap up the final paragraph. See Documents provided in Module with the Essay.
Conclusion
The thesis has been restated in different language, the points have been summarized, and there is an appeal to the audience according to the directions given.
