A way to sustain change is through the use of models that carefully plan the change and sustainability process. An example would be the SUSTAIN Model, which outlines the actions an organization should take in order to sustain changes made (Harrington et al., 2015).  The S stands for support from the top, explaining the importance of leadership involvement in change implementation and sustainability. The U stands for utilize change-sustaining approaches by implementing a sustainability step into the change model being used. The second S stands for shift paradigms when needed by planning for the future rather than how things are done currently. The T stands for talk and communicate, outlining the importance of transparency during change initiatives. The A stands for assimilate and integrate by using change agents to guide the implementation. The I stands for invest in planning in order to create sustainable changes. And finally, the N stands for negotiate results by assessing readiness for change within an organization (Harrington et al., 2015).    References: Harrington, H. J., Voehl, F., & Voehl, C. F. (2015). Michele Tufts replied toBeth Hale Oct 25, 2023, 10:48 PM Unread Hi Professor and classmates, Effective leadership at all levels is one of the most important strategies that would be critical in sustaining change in healthcare.   Effective leadership is important on all levels including the leadership at the organizational level, middle-level leadership and unit-level managers.  The leadership at the organizational level is important for support and engagement from the company executives.  This higher-level management initiates and maintains organizational engagement and prominence for the interventions.  The lack of support or insufficient involvement from high-level management can hinder the work required to sustain improvements in the workplace (Moon et al., 2022).     Middle-level leadership is recognized as a connection between leadership and the front-line managers in ensuring accountability and that change is happening.  Middle-level leadership is also responsible for the long-term sustainability of the change.  It is shown that having support from staff with seniority can legitimize the change, therefore making those changes more likely to continue.  In contrast, the disconnection between leadership and accountability between the involved units and departments resulted in a struggle to sustain improvement (Moon et al., 2022).   Unit managers were seen as key local change drivers and the ‘maintainer’ of the intervention.  The unit manager displays a  positive attitude and commitment.  This, in turn,  motivates front-line staff to enact change in daily functions.  It has been shown that staff turnover quickly decreases when the change activity shows sustained improvements  (Moon et al., 2022).  When leaders actively incorporate the intervention into practice, it is more successfully implemented into a routine (Moon et al., 2022).  There are many other strategies that are important when sustaining change.  It is important to seek which change process works best for your team and begin implementing this change into policy.    Reference   Moon, S.
