Title:   DNP 830 Topic 7 DQ 1

Disparities have existed in the USA and other countries throughout the globe for ages. The disparities are even more pronounced among the vulnerable population who experience a host of disparities, especially disparities related to healthcare (Zajacova & Lawrence, 2020). Researchers have suggested that implicit or unconscious bias plays a substantial role in such disparities. Bias entails a negative evaluation of a particular group and its members relative to other groups. Explicit bias comes in when an individual is aware of the evaluation, hence inclined to act in a particular way toward a specific group or individuals. Implicit bias, on the other hand, happens when a person is not even conscious or aware of the behavior (Yearby, 2019). As such, a perceiver does not need to give it attention, but it quickly happens in the presence of cues such as physical appearance, accent, and skin color. Therefore, it is more challenging to control this type of bias due to a lack of awareness. The implication is that an individual has to be deliberate and use various strategies to help control such bias.

Implicit bias can affect various aspects of my DPI project, such as data collection, data analysis, and patient outcomes. Therefore, I need to make efforts to eliminate such bias. One of the strategies that can help is the knowledge of the Christian worldview (Wadams & Park, 2020). Following the Christian worldview can greatly help eliminate bias from the DPI project. Christian worldview holds that individuals are all equal before God since God is the creator of everyone. Therefore, Christians should not show bias toward any individual based on factors such as skin color, language, culture, or even physical appearance (Bhugra et al.,2021). Therefore, when embarking on data collection, I will give participants equal chances irrespective of age, gender, race, skin color, or language. I will also analyze data without any bias and report the true findings based on the observations.
