About the organisation: Furry Friends

Furry Friends Training and care is a dog and cat training care centre based in Co. Wicklow. They provide some of the best classes and lessons taught by some of the most qualified instructors around for your pooch and a jungle of climbing frames for your cat to chill out and explore. Furry friends specialise in teaching your dog good behaviour, rehabilitation of dogs that have come from traumatic backgrounds, socialising dogs with other dogs, they also specialise in caring for cats, providing them with luxurious surroundings when you have to go away – we are a home away from home. We also provide first class doggy day care for all dog types so that you do not need to feel guilty when you are away during the day, we will look after your dog and treat them like our family – we also look after cats during the day if you would like us to keep an eye while you work. Our service includes picking up your dog or cat and returning when you are home. We have a specialised spa area where dogs can be groomed, we have a heated pool on site so your dog can enjoy swimming and a climbing jungle so your cat can explore all day long inside and out! We also provide a doggy hotel which is a home away from home, rest assured, your dog is safe with us while you enjoy that weekend away. We simply care about your dog. It shows as we are 25 years in business and have a five-star rating with 1,200 positive comments on google.

Goals of the website:

  • To increase bookings for dog and cat grooming & spa, dog and cat training, and the new Dog hotel facility at Furry Friends.
  • To increase brand awareness of Furry Friends and drive traffic to social media channels.

Content requirements (of the website):

  • Showcase the Furry Friends services available to the public.
  • Show testimonials of past customers that were happy with their services.
  • Provide tips on how to promote good behaviour with your dog or cat at home.
  • To showcase the new Doggy hotel centre with heated private rooms for dogs and cats.
  • A clear breakdown of services offered and fees.

Technical requirements (of the website):

  • A minimum of 8 pages of content.
  • A navigation and footer one to be fixed with links to social media.
  • At least one page to include a two-column layout, and at least one page to include a three-column layout.
  • Responsive form with micro interactions.
  • Drop-down bootstrap menu with at least 2 functioning sub-menu items linking to sub-menu pages.
  • Bootstrap image gallery.
  • Interactive form.
  • Error-free html & CSS.

PART 1 – WEB DESIGN PLANNING SCOPE DOCUMENT (20%)

Summary: Complete a planning document for the design of a website based for “Furry Friends” a dog & cat care and training centre. 

To help prepare developing the website, students are required to author a planning document consisting of:

  1. Aims and Objectives: Start by clarifying the aims and objectives of the website (as outlined in the assignment brief).
  2. Competitive Analysis: Compare at least three comparative websites and analyse under the following headings:
    • Visual design: Discusses colour/typography/ design pattern etc.
    • Content design: Discuss content included and call to actions.
    • Technical features: What features are included e.g. responsive design/ interactive elements/ rich media?
    • Overall effectiveness: What do you thinks goals of the website, do you think they have been achieved?

Include screenshots in your discussion.

  1. Target Audience: Include at least one primary and secondary persona for the Furry Friends website that references:
    • Demographics (age, location, occupation etc.)
    • Behaviours (in relation to pet ownership, what pets do they have, what activities do they do with their pets, what is the role of their pets in their lives?)
    • Pain-points (what difficulties to they experience with their pets in relation to grooming, training, care etc.)
  1. Visual Design Research
    • Colour Research: Explore accent colours for interactive elements like hyperlinks and buttons, and the overall colour palette for cohesiveness.
    • Typographic research: Examine HTML typographic elements like headings and paragraphs, ensuring a well-defined typographic scale. Evaluate the use of both web-safe fonts and embedded fonts for web.
    • Mood Boards: Use mood boards to convey the intended visual design direction and the desired aesthetic for the website.
  2. Site Map Diagram: Illustrate the pages in your proposed website and the content that will be included on the pages in diagram format.
  3. Wireframe Diagrams: Complete low-fidelity wireframe diagrams using this free tool: https://app.moqups.com/ for ALL desktop pages in your website and ALL mobile pages. The low-fidelity wireframes should indicate layout and elements that will be included, but do not have to detail the completed visual design. Include screenshots of the wireframe images and a link to the wireframe in this document.
  4. Design Mock-ups: Complete high-fidelity mock-up designs (https:// www.canva.com/create/website-mockups/) for two desktop pages in your website. For the same pages, complete two high-fidelity mocks-ups showing the mobile view also. The high-fidelity design mock-ups should indicate what the completed website will look like when developed (or the intended outcome – it’s ok if the design changes during development based on technical constraints). Include screenshots of the wireframe images in this document.

  1. Upload a website design planning document PDF to Moodle by Wednesday 29th October at 11.00pm.

PART 2 – WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT (30%)

Summary: Develop a website for the Furry Friends website.

Following on from website planning, develop a functioning website for the Furry Friends organisation based on the creative brief.

Technical requirements (of the website):

  • A minimum of 6/8 pages of content.
  • Drop-down bootstrap menu with at least 2 functioning sub-menu items linking to sub-menu pages.
  • At least one page to include a two-column layout, and at least one page to include a three-column layout.
  • Bootstrap image gallery.
  • Fully responsive with media queries optimising content for mobile and desktop.
  • Error-free html and CSS code.
  • A fixed position navigation or footer with links to social media.

Important Notes:

  • The website must be developed for the Furry Friends organisation.
  • Existing HTML or CSS templates may not be used for the website – it must be developed from scratch.
  • Sourced stock imagery can be used.
