INSTRUCTIONS TO STUDENTS:

1. This End-of-Course Assessment paper comprises 6 pages (including the cover page).
2. You are to include the following particulars in your submission: Course Code, Title of the ECA, SUSS PI No., Your Name, and Submission Date.
3. Late submission will be subjected to the marks deduction scheme. Please refer to the Student Handbook for details.

ECA Submission Guidelines

Please follow the submission instructions stated below:

A. What Must Be Submitted

• The ECA requires each student to submit a report for marking and grading.
• Please verify your submission after you have submitted the report.

B. Submission Deadline and Mode of Submission

• Deadline for Report: Please submit online via Canvas by 7 November 2025 (Friday), 1200hrs.
• Multiple submissions are allowed before the deadline. After the deadline, one submission is allowed, only if there is no previous submission.
• After the 12-hour grace period, mark deduction will kick in, i.e. 10 marks of total ECA marks will be deducted for each 24-hour block, or part thereof that the submission was late. Submissions with more than 50 marks deducted because of late submission will be given a zero mark.
• Reports should be submitted in Word doc. format and document file should be named in this format – For example, ABC123_ECA_Sally001_TanMeiMeiSally (omit D/O, S/O). Use underscore and not space.
• Please ensure that your ECA submission is successful. Once you have submitted your ECA, you will receive a Paper ID. Paper ID is the ONLY proof of your submission, especially in the event of technical failure. To download a copy of your Paper ID, click on the “Digital Receipt” icon

C. Please Read This Information before You Start Working on your ECA

This ECA carries 40% of the course marks and is a compulsory component. It is to be done individually and not collaboratively with other students.  You must submit it on time.

Please include a cover page with the following details:

• Title of this course, your name and PI number
• Tutorial group
• Submission Date
• Academic Integrity Declaration Statement (refer to “Declaration of Academic Integrity.docx”)

The Academic Integrity Declaration Statement must be completed and appended to the cover page of your assignment submitted for assessment. If you have declared the usage of generative AI in the academic integrity declaration statement in the cover page of your assignment, you will need to complete the Attribution Table as shown in Table A in “Declaration of Academic Integrity.docx” (available for download on Canvas > L/LG > Modules). Marks deduction may apply if resubmissions of a completed declaration form and table are required.

In accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA), please DO NOT include other personal particulars.

To facilitate your submission into Canvas, name your document file strictly to this format – CourseCode_AssignmentCode_UserID_FullName.

For example, ABC123_TMA01_Sally001_TanMeiMeiSally (omit D/O, S/O).

Submission

You are reminded that electronic transmission is not immediate. Hence, you are advised to submit your work no later than the day before the cut-off date in order to ensure that the submission is accepted and in good time. It is possible that the network traffic may be particularly heavy on the cut-off date and connections to the system cannot be guaranteed. 

You should not jeopardise your course result by submitting your ECA at the last minute.

Answer all questions in this section.

Question 1

Given our day and age and the prevalence of social media, thought leaders have a profound impact on us. Thought leaders are informed opinion leaders in their area of expertise. People go to them to be inspired, moved and influenced. Thought leaders can have positive impact on their followers by virtue of their innovative ideas, motivational words, and thought-provoking points of view.

In this question, you are to follow thought leader Simon Sinek on social media (i.e., Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).

You can find his linkedin here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/simonsinek/

After finding out more about the thought leader, you can follow the thought leader for 2 to 3 weeks on social media. Do also read the thought leader’s past posts and followers’ comments on their posts. You can refer to pasts posts up till 2  years ago. This means that you can base your write-up on any posts that happen from July 2023 onwards. At the same time, you can also use any other material related to Simon Sinek’s views on leadership that you have found on the internet.

Do choose a medium where the thought leader is most active on, so as to maximise the information you gather on this thought leader.

After following this thought leader and reading their posts and follower comments, analyse the leadership style that the thought leader exhibits. Most importantly, draw on leadership theories we have covered in the course to apply to how this thought leader practices their influence. You can also draw on leadership theories we have covered in the course to analyse the thought leader’s views on leadership.

To answer this question, you need to do the following:

1. Summarise the background of Simon Sinek and his area of expertise.
2. Analyse the leadership style or perceptions of leadership of Simon Sinek with description and application of leadership theories and course concepts.
3. Critically evaluate and examine how this leader has influenced followers. (Max 1000 words)

Evaluating Impact of Leader on you as a Follower

In this question, you are to refer to the thought leader Simon Sinek. To answer this question, please do the following:

1. Appraise the leader’s thought leadership and its impact on you personally.
2. In particular, examine how your views have been enlightened, and/or evolved as a result of following this leader on social media.
3. Examine how your mental model of leadership has or has not shifted as a result of reading on the leader’s thought leadership.
4. Examine how the thought leader has impacted you to reaffirm, reconsider or reevaluate your values and views in any way.
5. Explore how the thought leader has impacted how you would conduct yourself in the future. Come up with an action plan on what you would do differently in the future.

In this part of the question, you need to reflect on your analysis of the thought leader Simon Sinek. What are some of the competencies a thought leader should have?

After identifying FIVE (5) key qualities of a thought leader, create a competencies framework.

To do well in this question, you are encouraged to do additional research.

In your answer, be sure to do the following:

1. Specify FIVE (5) key qualities a thought leader should have
2. Come up with behavioural indicators that reflect the qualities you have identified
