Now that we have examined the micro (our families and upbringing), let’s look at the macro (society and culture). -Using the readings on feminism and anti-feminism, and the NOMAS piece, discuss your understanding of, relationship to, and belief in, current gendered movements and causes. Look up definitions of feminism and articulate your relationship to it. -Connecting to the examples in the Backlash article, offer current examples of Backlash beyond those we have discussed in class. -Use chapter 8 to make sense of your experience as a gendered person in an educational setting. Discuss any ideas from the chapter that connect to your past or present courses, curriculum, relation to teachers, etc. -Romano and Dokoupil discuss new roles for men in the home and at work. Orenstein mentions women’s relationships to sex, children, marriage, and work.
