What is your philosophy of education?
Students are expected to answer all parts of the questions using an appropriate number of primary sources (4- 6), demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the question and incorporate the various points of view related to the topic.
• Form: The questions are written to encourage the student to compare and contrast various theoretical constructs related to education in general and/or to the areas of specialization. In some cases, students will be asked to draw on their professional and/or personal experiences.
• Length: While there is a not a maximum number of pages, a well-developed response should probably range from about 5-10 pages, double spaced. It would be fair to say that any response fewer than five pages would not allow the student to develop a comprehensive response.
• Citations: All responses should use the most current edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), with regard to the intext citation (author, date) and the full reference for each citation at the end of each question. Guidelines for describing APA formatting are available online and at all university bookstores.
• Scoring: Evaluation of responses will be based on the Comprehensive Exam Rubric with scores of very good, good, marginal, and poor. A student who fails any one of the four questions must retake that section of the examination.

Give examples of at least two decisions you have made in your educational practice that demonstrate your commitment to this philosophy. Provide a rationale for how the decision is consistent with your philosophy.
2. Identify a significant current issue that impacts you in your current educational setting.
What are the underlying sociological, ideological and legal roots related to the issues?
Discuss how the issue results in conflict in the educational setting?
What are effective solutions to the conflicts related to the issue?
In your response, refer to the empirical work of at least two theorists and their contributions related to each of the solutions.
3. Select one of the following educational policies to implement in your setting:
Firstly, teacher dress code,
Secondly, a change in school boundaries,
Thirdly, the required use of authentic assessment,
Further, elimination of teacher tenure,
Additionally, evaluation of teachers based on standardized test scores,
Also, merit pay,
Finally, restrictions to academic freedom or implementation of full inclusion of special needs students.

b. Identify the resistance that might be anticipate regarding implementation.
c. Develop a plan with a strong rationale for successful implementation in your setting, district, county or state.
d. Cite those theorists whose work supports your plan.
4. Sociologists and educators have developed a range of arguments to explain the achievement gap between white students and minority students. Analyze two contrasting theoretical interpretations of this phenomenon and examine the differences between the two positions. Discuss the implications of each theoretical argument related to school-based interventions and the recommendations that each theorist would make to improve academic achievement.
