Both tasks are to be done individually – ie working by yourself. Between weeks 8 and 11 of semester 1, you will keep up to date with a story in the news which has ‘longevity’ – in other words, a story which will continue for some time. You will read about the story in newspapers, on-line, listen to reports on TV and other media, building up a detailed knowledge of the story and how it is developing. Task 1: The Journal This task carries 50% of the grade for this assessment Follow a news story of your choice and agreed with your teacher for a period of four weeks, between weeks 8 and 11 of semester 1. For each of the four weeks keep a journal in which  you outline how the story is developing and why. You should write one journal entry each week of between 150-200 words and you should accompany each entry with a reference list covering the media you have read and listened to in your research into the story. In order to gain a full and objective overview of the story, use a variety of sources, so that you are able to see how different media outlets deal with it. You will submit your journal to the EMA box provided by the deadline of May 15th. Task 2: The interactive presentation This task carries 50% of the grade for this assessment. You will deliver an interactive presentation on the news story you have followed. In your presentation, discuss the following: The way the story has developed during the period of time you have been following it Your own opinion on the story How you think the story will continue to develop from this point on You should use no more than five Powerpoint slides for your presentation, including an introduction and conclusion slide and one slide for each point you wish to make. The interactive presentation should have a duration of 5 minutes, and should be led by you, but with opportunities for those present to take part in the discussion. You will deliver your presentation in class during the week beginning Monday 10th May.    What do I need to do to pass?
