What is the difference between margin % and markup %? Why is it important to know the difference?
This assignment uses an Excel workbook as the basis for a case study. The case study is a snapshot of the merchandise Item Sales Report in the Small Tools department of a retail hardware business. However, the information contained in the Item Sales Report could apply to any choice of products in any retail category, store, or business.
Study and analyze the information in the workbook to complete the instructions below. Remember that financial analysis is more than just determining what the data reveals. Financial analysis requires managers to use the data to make decisions that will influence business results.
Study the examples below to understand how the formulas are applied. Then, complete the assignment, following the instructions.
Q: What is the difference between margin % and markup %? Why is it important to know the difference?
A: The margin formula measures how much of each dollar of revenue the business has available for overhead expenses and profit after paying the supplier. The markup formula shows how much more the selling price is than the cost of goods sold (COGS). Understanding both formulas is important to strategic pricing. Markup % is always higher than margin %. A misunderstanding in using these formulas can result in prices that are too low or too high.
Q: A new product is coming to your store. The cost to the store for each item (COGS) is $10. What should be the retail price if the company is seeking a 33% margin on the product?
A: 100 – 33 = 67
$10/67% = Retail Price/100%
Retail Price = ($10×100%/67%)
Retail Price = $14.9
Q: What would be the retail price if your boss told you to use a 33% markup?
A: 1.33 x $10 = $13.30 retail price
Instructions
Use course content, the skills you’ve practiced, and outside research to complete the calculations and answer the questions below regarding the case study. Use the following Excel workbook to answer them:
1. Use retail math formulas to calculate the data required to complete the case study.
-Open the Excel file to the tab labeled Item Sales Report. Study this spreadsheet and examine the mathematical relationships for Markup %, Margin %, % Total On-Hand, Sell Thru %, and % Total Sales.
-Using the formulas, calculate the values and fill in the correct percentages for the empty cells in the spreadsheet.
2. Use the data from the completed Item Sales Report spreadsheet to analyze the Small Tool business. When completing the following instructions, include any relevant data/numbers from the Item Sales Report to support your analysis (i.e., numbers that would affect change and address opportunities and liabilities in the Small Tool business).
-Open the Excel file to the tab labeled Observations
-In Text Box 1, identify at least three merchandise items that require action and explain why
-In Text Box 2, develop and defend at least three recommended action steps to maximize sales and/or minimize liabilities for the merchandise items

This is a doctoral-level research assignment designed to test your ability to conduct effective research, gain a nuanced understanding of complex concepts, synthesize the ideas reflected in your research with those reflected in your required readings, and to evaluate and apply these ideas to an issue of urban planning.
As with all doctoral-level assignments, you are expected to comport yourself with the highest writing, research, and ethical standards. To do well on this assignment, you must conduct high-quality research and offer a rich, well-supported analysis; mere opinion or conjecture will not suffice. A doctoral level course requires description and analysis. While descriptions certainly are the precursor to analyses, they are not the analyses. Analysis is not just opinion statements, or a list of what authors have said. Each idea needs elaboration and explanation and, if possible, supported by data and/or credible sources. The analysis should demonstrate the ability to integrate theories with applications.
You must avoid careless or simple grammatical errors such as misspellings, incomplete sentences, comma splices, faulty noun/verb agreement, etc. Such errors will result in substantial point deductions. No slang, idioms, jargon, colloquialisms, and everyday language. Your writing must be scholarly.
Plagiarism in any form, including self-plagiarism, is strictly prohibited and may result in failure of the assignment, failure of the course, and/or removal from the program. It is your responsibility to ensure that you understand fully what constitutes the various forms of plagiarism and to avoid all forms of plagiarism.

Choose a topic that enables you to tell a short, interesting personal story. Your story can be funny, suspenseful, meaningful, or exciting, but it must focus on one event.
A. Instructions
Choose a topic that enables you to tell a short, interesting personal story. Your story can be funny, suspenseful, meaningful, or exciting, but it must focus on one event. For example, if you decide to write about traveling to Denmark, you should not write about the entire trip. Choose one event (e.g., an afternoon you spent bicycling on an island, or your first taste of smoked herring, or your visit to the childhood home of Hans Christian Anderson) and tell a detailed story that focuses on that event.
The following are some ideas that can help you to select a topic for your story:
Firsts: Think of a “first” in your life and describe that moment in detail.
Proud Moment: Choose a moment when you felt proud about an accomplishment.
Adversity: Describe a time when you had to think or act quickly to overcome a challenge.
Travel: Recall a memorable experience you had while visiting an interesting place.
B. Think About Your Writing
Below your completed narrative, include answers to all of the following reflection questions:
1. Which narrative techniques did you use to bring your story to life? (2-3 sentences) Sophia says: Did you use vivid description, sensory details, and/or dialogue to engage readers? Provide two examples from your essay in which you show readers rather than tell them. EXAMPLE: A sentence such as “I glanced at the clock, grabbed my briefcase, and sprinted for the elevator” uses more descriptive language than simply saying, “I was running late for the meeting.”
2. How did your purpose and audience shape the way in which you wrote your narrative? (3-4 sentences) Sophia says: Your hypothetical audience extends beyond the people who will evaluate your narrative. Which individuals or groups were you addressing when you wrote your narrative, and how did consideration of your audience and your purpose influence the way in which you wrote it?
3. Provide a concrete example from your narrative that shows how you have written specifically for this audience and purpose. (3-5 sentences) Sophia says: Consider including a quotation from your essay and explaining how it was written to appeal to your audience, and to accomplish your purpose. Alternatively, you might describe a theme, tone, or narrative technique that you used and explain how it was intended to appeal to your audience and achieve your purpose.
C. Narrative Guidelines
DIRECTIONS: Refer to the checklist below throughout the writing process. Do not submit your Touchstone until your essay meets all of the guidelines.
Narrative Focus and Flow
Are all of the details in your story relevant to your purpose?
Are the events presented in a logical order that is easy to follow?
Is your story 500-800 words in length? If not, which details do you need to add or subtract?
Narrative Structure
Is there an opening paragraph that introduces the setting, characters, and situation?
Are there middle paragraphs that describe the progression of events?
Is there a closing paragraph that provides a thorough resolution to the story?
Narrative Language and Techniques
Have you incorporated narrative language and techniques (e.g., figurative language, concrete and sensory details, dialogue, and vivid description)?
Can examples of narrative language and techniques be found throughout your story, or are they only evident in some places?
Conventions
Have you double-checked for correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, formatting, and capitalization?
Have you proofread to find and correct typos?
Before You Submit
Have you included your name, date, and course in the top left corner of the page?
Have you answered all of the Think About Your Writing questions?
Is your essay between 500 and 800 words in length (2-3 pages)?
D. Scoring
Your composition and reflection will be scored according to the Touchstone 1 Rubric, which evaluates the narrative focus, narrative flow, narrative structure, narrative language and techniques, use of conventions (grammar, punctuation, etc.), and your answers to the Think About your Writing questions above.

DB Response – CA HR
Please add a brief response to the following post. It is meant to add to the discussion.
DB POST:
When there is a new product or service in the market, it will experience many unforeseen risks. For instance, the software might not work according to customer satisfaction. The organization is not in the position of knowing the reactions of the customers and other competitors. Therefore, the managers must develop a well-trained team that will be dealing with all the issues related to new software. Consequently, they should be in a position to solve any of the conflicts, as shown below strategies.
The core elements of a conflict resolution procedure that you would develop?
First, customer satisfaction is the basis of any business. Therefore, one of the best core elements that will solve customer frustration is using the honest strategy and telling them the truth. By telling them the truth as the spokesperson of the origination, you are not only being honest but cooling their anger down. Then after that, ensure you have a proper mechanism such as total quality management to prevent future failure and late delivery of the customers’ services. Also, they should be appropriate channels of communication to be put in place. This will lead to open communication and solving some of the miscommunication from one department to another (Delatorre & Wagner, 2018).
The concern as a manager most if this situation arose in my area of responsibility?
The most important first as the manager is to try as much as I can solve all the customers’ complaints since the customers are always right when it comes to business. Then will look into the root cause of the problem and try to eliminate them to prevents future disappointment of the customers (Mussa, Teka & Aliye, 2017).
Opinion about other solutions proposed by the class?
Some practical skills are also crucial in resolving and defusing confits. Although the attempt might at conflict resolution, they might not last for success. I’m not saying the other solutions are wrong, although, at this, point the first objective is to calm down the customers and focus on solving their problem one by one.
The areas that should be improved about some of the other approaches to the situation?
First, the organization should improve the quality organization’s culture. That is all the materials that are used to provide the services should of high quality. Secondly, all the employees should have enough skill match to avoid disappointing the customers.

Week 5 Break Even Analysis Assignment and Guidelines V2 (Links to an external site.)
Requirements
Answer the questions and complete the calculations required for the assignment.
Submit your answers on a Word document, with the heading of Week 5 Assignment. For the questions requiring a written response, answer directly on the assignment and adhere to proper grammar and syntax, and provide references. For the questions requiring calculations, show all of your work and follow the format that has been provided for the calculations in the lesson for Week 5. In addition, further explanations and formulas on the break-even analysis are contained in the required reading resources.
Key points for calculations
1. When performing calculations, standard rounding rules apply. If the number to the right of the decimal is less than 0.5, round down to the nearest whole number, e.g., 33.4 = 33 If the number to the right of the decimal is 0.5 or greater, round up to the nearest whole number, e.g. 33.5 =34.
2. Read the question carefully. Pay close attention to the units be asked and keep them consistent. For example, days vs months vs years; charges vs contribution margin; dollars vs percentage
3. Provide ALL formulas with references. Designate which formula associates with which source. It is not sufficient to simply list the source at the beginning of the section. Write out the formula used BEFORE filling in the numbers. Formulas used should be taken from one of the required resources for this course.
Example: Total Contribution Margin (CM) = Contribution margin (CM) category 1 + CM cat 2 + CM 3
