A critique of a course on the History of American Higher Education is that it is written from a white perspective. In
this paper, please explore the history of an underrepresented group in American higher education. This is an
opportunity to think deeply about how a population (African Americans) experienced higher education.
Include a temporal historical overview (50%)
Discuss who opposed the group’s access to higher education and why.
Describe influential policies and legislation
Discuss multiple perspectives including – individual, institutional, and national
Respond to this question: “How has history shaped the ways in which African Americans historically and
currently experience higher education?” (50%)
1500 words (about five to six pages) not including title or reference page
Use at least five sources non-website sources; however, websites may be used in addition as appropriate.
The paper will be evaluated as follows:
Content quality (adherence to the assignment, completeness, appropriate length)
Clarity of expression (clear, concise writing; easy to read and understand).
Correctness of grammar, spelling, sentence structure, vocabulary, punctuation, and adherence to APA
style (where applicable)
