ENGL 111
Assignment: Final Reflection (Comparing and Contrasting Writing)
Introduction to Assignment
Now that you’ve completed all major assignments, you will reflect on yourself as a writer. One of the key components of effective writing classes is practicing metacognition—thinking about your writerly self, goals, practices, and accomplishments. In this final reflection, you will reflect on those elements in relation to the work you’ve produced within this course.
General Educational Competencies of Assignment
1) Written Communication
2) Reading Fluency
3) Critical Thinking
4) Information Literacy
Writing Your Final Reflection
Your final reflection will be no less than 3 double-spaced pages. Your tone can be informal. It is up to you how you’d like to organize your reflection, but you should address the following:
• What was your writing process like? How did you approach accomplishing each project—from initial stages of brainstorming, to drafting, to revising?
• Compare and contrast your performance for the different projects. For the project that you did best on, why do you think this was so? For the project that was your weakest, why do you think this was so?
• How do you think of/see yourself as a writer? Has that changed at all before and after taking this course? Why?
• Reflect on peer review. How did you approach providing feedback? What did you value most in the feedback that your peers gave you? Compare and contrast your peer review process for the different projects.
• What element(s) of your writing do you think improved most over the semester? Why?
• What element(s) of your writing do you think still need improvement? Why?
• What have you learned about yourself as a writer?
• What aspect(s) of writing (or how you think about writing) will you carry forth to other courses or ENGL 112?
