Juan Bautista Alberdi was an Argentinean political ideologist, who belonged to the so-called Generation of ’37. This was a group of Argentinean intellectuals, who were born during the years of the Independence wars and witnessed the environment of political turmoil of the civil war that erupted after independence. The members of this generation also sought to explain the incapacity of the liberals to establish a stable government. In “Bases and Points of Departure,” Alberdi indicated what he believed essential to develop strong states. Why were some of these transformations the Argentina republic needed?
