Im stuck on a Powerpoint question and need an explanation.
PRESENTATION
LEGAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT:
Each student (or student group) will have to identify a significant social, economic, or political issue that he/she feels should be addressed by the legal system (for which there are no existing laws). In response to that social issue, the student(s) must write their own law/regulation. In doing so, the student will develop a legal solution that:
1. Delineates the significance of the social issue being addressed and articulates the need for legal intervention (Essentially, identify the reasons why the issue is troublesome for society what harm is being done; who is being affected; how they are being affected; to what extent are they affected; etc.). The goal is to make a case for legal intervention. Please gather scholarly evidence, personal experience, and/or data to support your claims. Make sure to properly cite all sources used. (10 points)
2. Write a law that addresses the significant social problem (be as specific as possiblei.e. what does the law prohibit and what are the penalties for its violation?) (If there are degrees of your law-make sure to define each degree and specify the penalty for each degree) (10 points)
3. Identify how your law would be implemented (who would be responsible for enforcing the law, would any special agencies be created to enforce it, how would you pay for its enforcement?) (10 points)
4. What are the objectives of your law? What does it aim to accomplish? Explain why you believe your law will be effective. (10 points)
5. What obstacles/opposition might you face in enacting your law? Discuss if and how these might be overcome. (5 points)
6. What are some of the unintended consequences of your law that you anticipate? Discuss if and how these might be overcome. (5 points)
7. Professionalism (free from spelling/grammar/typing errors) (5 points)
Examples of social issues include, but need not be limited to (these are just meant to give you an idea of what you might considerbe creative!!):
a. Juvenile Laws for Sexting by teens
b. Criminalizing violent video games, movies etc.
c. Mandatory alarms on cell phone cameras
d. Parental responsibility laws for juvenile offenders
e. Mandatory signals/gates on all railroad crossings
f. Laws for self-driving cars (and/or specifications for responsibility in accidents)
g. Laws regulating invasive new technologies
LEGAL PRESENTATION
Each student (group) will present their social issue and legal solution to the legislature (made up of their classroom peers) and defend it. If part of a group, all group members must play a relatively equal speaking role. The legislative body will vote to determine if the students law should be enacted.
GRADING & DUE DATES
The legal development project & presentation will be graded on evidence of analytical thought; inclusion of relevant research; originality; comprehensiveness; logical coherency; inclusion of the components noted above,and professionalism (free of grammar, typing, and spelling errors). The legal development project will account for 55 semester points while the presentation will account for 15 semester points.
