Task:
You work for a company which specialises in project management of medium to large projects. Your company is located in a coastal region with renowned beaches and tropical forests which are full of diverse bird and animal wildlife. The largest employment and economic income to the area is from the tourism and hospitality industry. Other industries are agribusiness, forestry, and mining (in order of economic size).
The local council for this region has gained funding to redevelop the infrastructure and beautify the areas which have been neglected over the years. These projects are diverse but are in the public eye being foreshore redevelopment and beautification, sports centres, parks, etc. As the council is advertising its green philosophy to the world – due to importance of both the reef and rainforest, and in aligning to the expectations for this region in a boost to tourism and business, the council is also actively seeking technological methods to respond to climate change, water runoff, soil degradation, carbon reduction, etc.
These projects are aligned with large state and federal funding and bring attention from public eye, both locally and internationally. The state government and the local council have based these projects on their vision and strategic plans for 2020-2025, as well as the council’s strategic corporate plan, which were founded on resident groups’ surveys and communications.
The council has stated they would give preference to companies that are local and employ local people, contractors, and firms, thus keeping the money in the local economy and boosting employability; as well as those that are aligned with the latest ISO and the PMI’s project management processes and have a successful track record of delivering successful client outcomes. Your company is interested and sees this as an opportunity of getting a profile in government projects.
