As established, the emotional and intellectual stages we experience from childhood to retirement years as a member of a family are called the family life cycle. In each stage, we often face challenges in our family life that have us develop or gain new skills. Developing these skills helps us work through the changes that nearly every family (traditional or nontraditional) goes through.
Not everyone passes through these stages smoothly. Situations such as severe illness, financial problems,
or the death of a loved one can have an effect on how well you pass through the stages. For this
assignment, do the following:
Pick one family life cycle development issue, or a variation on stages, that you experienced in your family-of-origin and/or in your present family.
Describe your experience with special emphasis on vertical and horizontal stressors (divorce, domestic violence, alcoholism, etc.).
Consider special issues including poverty, power, privilege, women and men and the family life cycle.
Integrate, when relevant or applicable, individual life schemas including bonding, and attachment.
Research and examine changing patterns within familys developmental cycles. Integrate your findings into the paper.
