For this assignment, you’ll be doing the following:
1. Choose a finance, economics or accounting-related current event article that you find interesting. Feel free to use any of the following resources to find an article: The Wall Street Journal, Yahoo Finance, Forbes, The Economist, Kiplinger’s, Bloomberg News, Money or Barron’s, The Harvard Business Review, The New York Times or Fortune magazine. The Green River Holman Library website gives students access to many of these for free! https://www.greenriver.edu/campus/campus-resources/holman-library/
NOTE: Check the discussion board first before you pick your article because I’d like you to pick an article that no one else has picked so that we get a variety of articles.
2. Prepare a short written summary of your article (15 points). I expect this to be approximately 500 words but I’m really flexible. I want this to be short, sweet and easy to understand and read for the class. Feel free to add bullet points/pictures/graphs anything to make it clear and easy to understand. Submit your summary in this module (under Current Event #1 – submit your written summary here). (Due Sunday July 11th at 11:59pm.)
3. Respond to at least one other student’s article summary (5 points). Comment on at least one other student’s summary and give them feedback. Did you find the article interesting? Did you like their summary? Do you have questions? Please provide thoughtful answers/comments. (Due Wednesday Jan 12th at 11:59pm.)
4. Present your summary briefly (1-2 minutes) to the class at our next zoom class (5 points).
This assignment will be worth 25 points:
1. 15 points for your written summary below.
2. 5 points for giving your thoughts/comments/feedback to at least one other student’s summary.
3. 5 points for briefly presenting your current event to the rest of the class at our next zoom session.
I’ve attached a great example of a current event assignment submitted by one of my students last quarter so you can get an idea of what I’m looking for
