Persuasive Speech The purpose of this speech is to persuade audience members that a policy on something related to your topic should be started, changed, or stopped. In other words, to persuade your audience that X should do Y. Depending on your topic, the locus and scope of the problem may be local (ex. Denver), state (ex. Colorado), national, or international. Should your friend take Public Speaking online or on campus? Should you invest in bonds or mutual funds? Should the State of Colorado raise the driving age to 20? Should the federal government enact stricter gun control measures? These questions and this type of speech deals with whether something should or should not be done and what specific course of action to take as a result. Additional information about this speech is provided in the Policy Speech Assignment Instructions.
