Describe your experience working with young children. Tell us your “why”, meaning why are you pursuing a career in early childhood education. When you know your why then the ‘what” you do every day makes sense because it is attached to a purpose. Also, describe or explain your long-term career goals. Part Two: 1. Put the following value statements in order of personal importance to you as an educator (Number 1 being most important and number 2 being least important)

Also, describe or explain your long-term career goals.

Part Two:

1. Put the following value statements in order of personal importance to you as an educator (Number 1 being most important and number 2 being least important):

    • A teacher’s most important task is to help children feel good about themselves.
    • Children who attend preschool and kindergarten should learn the discipline they will need later in school.
    • Children won’t learn unless the teacher tells them what to do.
    • Development of intellectual skills is the most important task of an early childhood program.
    • Given enough time and equipment, children will learn all they need without traditional, formal teaching.
    • Children should be allowed to play in school.
    • Family should not be allowed to interfere in their child’s schooling.
    • In order to show fairness, all children should be treated the same way in school.
    • It is important for teachers to be responsive to the individual needs and interests of all children.
    • It is appropriate for educators to use rewards help change children’s behaviors.
    • Early childhood curriculum should be based on what children will need to know in later schooling.
    • Children who misbehave should not be allowed special privileges.
    • It is important for children in pre-school to learn to color within and cut on the lines, write neatly, stand in line, and use proper punctuation.

2. Justify the first three values that you selected in a fully thought out paragraph.
