This is an individual assignment. Students are not permitted to work in a group when writing this assignment.
Submission Guidelines
Your assignment submission should be typed, not written/drawn by hand. Submit the electronic copy of your assignment through the subject LMS.
Submission after the deadline will incur a penalty of 5% of the available assignment mark per day capped at 5 days. No assignment will be accepted after 5 days. If you have encountered difficulties that lead to late submission or no submission, you should apply for special consideration.
Your Tasks
This assessment requires you to create key components of a Project Plan using the information provided in the given project. You will take on the role of a Project Manager assisting with the completion of the project. You need to make sure that the project will be completed on time, under budget, while delivering all the benefits expected by the project owner. To do that, you are required to provide a plan showing the Work Breakdown Structure, stakeholder analysis and the relevant communication plan, and risk analysis. Screenshots of a Microsoft Project plan are also required to demonstrate your skills in using the software to facilitate effective project management.
The project – Outdoor Recreation Unlimited
Each year at the end of summer, Outdoor Recreation Unlimited puts on a major sales event that includes live music, displays of discounted outdoor clothing and gear, food vendors and fun outdoor activities in order to sell their remaining retail and have a great time in the process. This year, your boss has given you the task of being the project manager for this event. The event will take place in three months.
It is your first time in a project management role and you want to prove to him that you are knowledgeable and well-equipped to take on these types of duties. He has set a budget of $30,000 for this whole project and assigned 4 staff members to help you (each is paid $45 per hour).
Your Tasks
Based on the above information you are to create key components of a Project Plan and apply the concepts/theories related to project management to support your arguments and where possible, include supporting references. You are required to:
1. Focus on any TWO of the following aspects:
i. Conduct a stakeholder analysis and develop the corresponding reporting and communication plan. This part should include:
• Prioritisation and analysis of three key stakeholders using the Ladder of Participation
• Development of a high-level communication plan using the template provided
ii. Develop a 2-level or 3-level Work Breakdown Structure (using the template provided) with meaningful and clear definition of task packages, reasonable
budgets, duration and personnel arrangement.
You need to:
• Ensure the work packages are meaningful as well as suitable for building a 2-level or 3-level WBS.
• Assign tasks to the staff reasonably (staff are not under-utilized or overloaded).
• Ensure that scheduling enables on-time delivery of expected benefits.
iii. Conduct a risk analysis with the Probability and Impact Matrix, and develop a risk response plan using the template provided.
2. Present screenshots of the Microsoft Project task list and Gantt chart (one screenshot for each). In addition to the information in the WBS, the MS Project plan should also show personnel arrangement, task durations, and task dependencies.
