The assessment task
In response to a task by the service CEO, you are required to prepare a research plan to conduct research into the education service as part of a service review. The research is aimed at evaluating the services current policy framework and alignment with the National Quality Framework regulated by ACECQA.
The service CEO has requested the research plan to be ready in the next week so we can move forward with the research activity as soon as possible. The research activity itself needs to be complete within the next four weeks. The CEO has indicated that a self-assessment with the Quality Areas of the National Quality Standard should form a component of the research as well as a qualitative review of the service policy framework. The service CEO would like to see some stakeholder engagement in the form of a focus group with members of the staff as a component of the research strategy. This is particularly important as part of the policy framework review as we need to understand how well the current policy framework is accepted by or utilised by staff. The CEO would also like to establish systems to collect information from staff, children, families and the community to inform self-assessment on a regular ongoing basis. The CEO would like recommendations coming from the service review to achieve this.
This scenario is intended to set the scope of the research to be planned and set timeframe for your submission. You must engage with service coordinators within the education care service to ensure the views and interests of these important stakeholders are reflected in the selection of research methodology and approach. Based on the advice provided by the CEO, you must select research methodologies suitable for the purpose and context of the research and to ensure confidence and credibility in the research findings.
Minimum requirements of this assessment activity
The following defines the minimum requirements of this assessment activity to be completed by you. You may exceed these requirements but must meet the following minimum requirements during their completion of the research task:
- prepare a research plan.
This requires you to submit a research plan that includes the following:
- Purpose of the research
- Planned research methodology used to analyse research data. At least one methodologymust be selected and incorporated into the plan.
- Planned strategies used to collect research data. The selected strategies must include a self-assessment, an evaluation of service policy and procedure and at least one focus group. You must also select and plan for a minimum of two additionalresearch strategies to be applied during their research. You may choose these using your own research and experience however the following strategies are suggested as options:
- Survey
- Interview
- Occurrence Analysis
- Trend Analysis
- Observation
- Tests
- Identified key stakeholders for engagement and describehow each strategy aligns with the related research methodology and provide an explanation of how this data will be collected. You are required to develop your research plan to engage with a minimum of five stakeholders selected from the following list:
- Service Coordinators
- Centre Managers
- Room Supervisors
- Child Educators
- Parents
- Children
- Community Members (relevant to the education and care service)
- Subject Matter Experts (such as a Nutritionist or Food Hygiene Specialist)
- State / Territory Childcare Authorities
- Industry Groups
- ACECQA
- Identify any ethical, cultural or legal considerations for the research
- Identify the strategies for validating research findings
- Identify the resources required to conduct the research
- Provide a timeline for completion of the research
- Outline the method of communicating the outcomes of the researchonce this is approved by the CEO
The research plan should be no longer than 8 pages. You must provide a logical and valid research plan addressing all the sections identified above to be assessed as satisfactorily completing the assessment task.
