I’d like for us to try something a little different for this assignment. I want you to take a recent historical phenomenon and explain it in the historical context of post-WWII global history. I know this is a tall order. You do not need to cover everything — just formulate a clear argument about how the selected phenomenon fits into the broader historical context we have been studying. Examples of potential events are The Iraq War (2003-2011), the global financial crisis of 2008-2009, the rise of European populism, the current situation in Hong Kong, the Paris Climate Accords, the election of Donald Trump, the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement, and the Syrian Civil War. This is only a tiny fraction of the potential topics — you are more than welcome to pick something on your own. You will need to find outside sources to support your analysis. Please use a minimum of three different sources. Remember, this is a short essay. Make sure to adhere to the same guidelines as the first essay and to keep the paper under three pages.
