Objectives
This assessment item relates to the learning outcome 1, 2 and 3. More specifically, to design and implement a complex mobile application. The objective of this assignment is for students to develop, test and maintain an iOS mobile application using Xcode.
Introduction
You are assigned the task of creating a Car Dealers List iOS mobile application that shows information of minimum 10 official car dealers. Your application will have two main tabs: Manufactures and Favourites, as well as four segment controllers: All, Petrol, Diesel and Electric (Figure 1).

This application is built based on the Burger Recipe project that is covered in the lecturer and tutorial sessions. Completing tutorial tasks can be the greatest help for creating your Car Dealers application.
Application Tabs and Segment Controllers
You need to create two tabs: Manufactures and Favourites. The Manufactures tab shows a list of all car brands, and the favourites shows the list of your favourite Manufactures among the vehicles list. With a double tap on any vehicle item, it will be added to the favourites list. With a single tap, another view will be opened showing the manufactures logo and up to 5 dealers’ locations (Figure 2). You can get such information by a simple Google search for list of car manufactures. Your application’s segment controllers will filter out vehicles based on their energy source type. All this information must be fetched from a JSON file.

You need to follow the tutorials from week 7 to create your Car Dealers application. In this application, you will store all the manufacture information in a JSON file with following data format:

Add new car dealership:
Your application should include a plus symbol in all views that allows users to add new car dealers to the list (Figure 3). In the related view, your application needs to have two sections for entering the dealer (manufacture)’s name and its locations.

Required Documentation
You are also to prepare a Word document. Your document should include an appropriate title page and the following three sections that address hardware and software requirements, application commentary and your testing strategy:
- Hardware and Software Requirements:
Your document should include a list of mobile devices and manufacturers targeted for the application. You should state what mobile devices (real device or emulator) were used to test the application and what version of iOS is supported.
- Application Commentary:
Your document should include a list the features you successfully implemented and those you were unable to successfully implement; you should describe the problem in a few sentences and also briefly describe anything you attempted to do to get it to work. Your approach to identifying and attempting to fix these bugs may gain you some partial credit for those features you were unable to implement. You also need to include descriptions of any additional functionality you believe would be useful to add to this app. Explain what the features are, and how they would help to improve the app. Include screenshots of your application’s views and functionalities.
- Testing Strategy:
Your document should include a list of mobile devices targeted by the app. Discuss whether testing is required on actual devices and what part emulators/simulators can play in this process. Document functionality and UI testing of the app.
- Video link:
You also need to capture the screen of your emulator, or the whole desktop while running your application (You can use the QuickTime Player on Mac OS for this purpose). You must show all functionalities in 1-2 minutes video. Your video should be uploaded in your personal DropBox, Google Drive, or any other cloud based folder and the related URL must be included in your document.
