Hey! I’m applying to Brown University and need help writing the supplemental essays. I have attached my main college essay and the supplemental essays I wrote for other colleges. Read them so you can get to know me and also go through their website to get a better picture of how to answer the questions. I did the research and wrote down the information you need to answer the question, but if you feel it isn’t enough, google other samples essays and take them as an example. I have good academics and my counselor says I have a good chance of getting in and the only thing that is in between is these additional essays so please try to do your best job and don’t write random things to reach the word limit.
Here are the essay prompts and word limit for each of them.
1) Brown’s Open Curriculum allows students to explore broadly while also diving deeply into their academic pursuits. Tell us about any academic interests that excite you, and how you might use the Open Curriculum to pursue them while also embracing topics with which you are unfamiliar. (200-250 words)*
From building Legos when I was younger to building an electric go-kart in our engineering club, I have always admired the structure and optimization that goes into designing our daily life objects. I look forward to becoming a mechanical engineer while also specialzing in nanoengineering.
I would also have the opportunity to explore my other interesting n engineering: nanotechnology by taking classes like Nanoengineering and Nanomedicine that help me learn more about nanomaterials synthesis, fabrication, and characterization. I would also be able to take classes like Cancer Nanotechnology that would further improve my knowledge in diagnosing and treating cancer, particularly using nanotechnology and BioMEMS.
The open curriculum will allow me to go out of the STEM bubble and take other interesting classes like Introduction to Geographic Information Systems for Environmental Applications, and Revolutions that Changed the World which will help me continue to pursue my love of Geography and History.
After being able to explore a wide range of interests at Brown, rather than having to choose one narrowly focused concentration, I’d build important skills like creativity and multi-disciplinary knowledge that could assist me as a successful engineer.

When I was in India, I used to go with my aunt who is a teacher in a rural part of India, to teach kids the knowledge I had. Before going, I remember being scared about my ability to teach the kids there and was quite nervous. But once I reached there and saw the low standards of education, my heart was broken. For example, most of them couldn’t even afford notebooks, and one of the kids couldn’t afford a pair of glasses to be able to have a good vision. After my first day there, I realized that I am actually living someone else’s dream life. There are people out there struggling for the minimum. Now as I apply for colleges I realize they don’t even have enough money to go to college and have to start working from now itself.
3) Brown students care deeply about their work and the world around them. Students find contentment, satisfaction, and meaning in daily interactions and major discoveries. Whether big or small, mundane or spectacular, tell us about something that brings you joy. (200-250 words)*
Something that brings me to joy the completing calling goals in my life. The ones that I have successfully completed are solving a 3×3 Rubix cube in under 30 seconds, learning all the country names along with their capitals and flag, reaching a rapid chess rating of 1700, being able to do 50 push-ups, and finally to be better at badminton than my sister.
