Question: There are various theoretical approaches to the understanding of what factors contribute to the occurrence of democratization. For example, whereas “resource curse theory” focuses on the affect of the existence of precious resources such as oil, diamonds, or gold on the democratization in a country, “international conflict theory” emphasizes the analysis of international factors such as alliances or international power structures for understanding how democratization occurs in a country. Please study these and other theoretical approaches in the book (listed below) and course powerpoints in Module 1. After reviewing these theories, explain which one(s) do you think accounts for the democratization process in some developing countries. Explain why and give a country (or two) as an example to show how that theory or theories seems to be valid in the explanation of democratization in that country.
