Task description:
You will be conducting two biology experiments. The aim of your first experiment is to establish the conditions for osmosis to occur. The aim of your second experiment is to determine the concentrations of sucrose which will create hypotonic, hypertonic and isotonic states in potatoes. These experiments can be done in your home with potatoes and a few other simple apparatuses.
You will use the experiment template on Blackboard to complete your report. You will need to design, conduct and analyse the data from your experiments in order to answer the questions that your experiments are proving or disproving. You will submit this work in the form of a scientific report which includes a body of knowledge that shows your understanding of the underlying biological concepts relevant to your experiment. You MUST use in-text citations and provide a reference list (APA style). This is an authentic assessment because as scientists we conduct experiments to extend our understanding of the world. Any questions we answer are grounded in theory and evidence (data) from scientific experiments.

• A body of knowledge detailing the relevant chemical and biological concepts and theories behind your experiments, as well as discussing the importance of these concepts in the living world
• Aspects of experimental design for both experiments, including a title, introduction, hypothesis, method, result and conclusion
• In-text citations and a reference list
