Instructions:
For this assignment, learners are required to conduct a Risk Assessment in one of the rooms/areas of their chosen organisation. Learners should examine the role of the Health & Safety Authority and refer to the requirements as outlined in the Health, Safety and Welfare at Work Act 2005 in the application of their Risk Assessment and report findings accordingly.
Important note: for this assignment, learners will demonstrate their understanding of the procedures to be considered when conducting a Risk Assessment in their organisation. Learners may quote and reference parts of the Health, Safety and Welfare at Work Act 2005 accordingly; however, a direct copy and paste of the information outlined in the Act is not permitted. Learners may also include any parts of the Act that they have included as part of their assignment (and referenced appropriately) within the appendices section of their assignment.

Learners will construct their assignment using each of the headings noted in Bold below while
addressing each of the listed criteria:
1. Introduction (10 marks)
Provide a brief introduction for the reader that addresses each of the following points:
- The aims/objectives of the assignment. (1 mark)
- Details of the organisation and chosen room/area on which the Safety Audit will be
conducted. (1 mark) - Identify the factors that contribute to a safe and healthy working environment.
(2 marks) - Outline how Health & Safety in your organisation is managed with reference to each
of the following: (4 marks)- Training (is there a designated Health & Safety Officer – what are their/
duties) - Fire Drill procedures
- Accident Reporting
- Procedures for use and disposal of hazardous materials and waste

- The role of the Health and Safety Authority (2 marks)
2. Relevant primary source of information. (10 marks)
Complete a Risk Assessment of the chosen room/area in your organisation (using the Sample template provided) and report on the following findings:
- Hazards identified (1 mark)
- People who are at risk from the hazards identified (1 mark)
- The potential risks presented in relation to the hazards (1 mark)
- The category of risk is high, medium, or low (1 mark)
- The required controls to be implemented (1 mark)
- The person(s) responsible for the control (1 mark)
On completion of the Risk Assessment, provide a re-evaluation of the risks after implementation of control measures. (4 marks)
3. Recommendations (5 marks)
On completion of the audit, make clear and detailed recommendations for changes and improvements in relation to safety and health in your workplace.
