You’re completing this assignment because you believe that you already have the academic writing skills needed to succeed in this area of your studies. This is a pass/fail assign- ment. If you don’t earn a “P” for proficient on this assignment, you’ll be required to take the English Composition course, as it’s a required general education elective course. If you display proficiency and earn a grade of “P,” you’ll receive academic credit for English Composition and can move on in your studies. This assignment reflects various areas of learning and practice in which a student should be proficient at the completion of our English Composition course. There are seven parts to this assignment and each part focuses on a different topic. Topics include types of sen- tences, sentence construction, word choice, proofreading, sentence structure, MLA style, and essay writing. Read through the assignment, paying close attention to the instructions and examples, when given, at the beginning of each section. Note: Answer parts 1-5 on the exam; your responses should be handwritten. Parts 6 and 7 should be typed using 1-inch margins, 12-point Times New Roman font, and dou- ble-spaced. Include your name, student ID number and the type of essay in the header. The exam should be mailed to the address provided at the end of the exam booklet.
