Question for the essay:
Management of Criminal Justice Ethics
Overview
The cornerstone of the criminal justice system is, in fact, ethics. They are what assisted us as a culture in developing the moral reasoning we utilize, defining illegal action, and determining what is acceptable as punishment. It’s an essential subject because our criminal justice system works best when it operates ethically.
Here are three main areas in criminal justice where ethics plays a role:
1. Operations of the Police
There are several approaches to investigate how ethics might impact police conduct, such as how the police engage with the community and how the community interacts with the police. A community is more likely to be transparent and ethical when interacting with the police if they are considered to be working ethically. This involves collaborating on crime prevention.
2. Behaviour of Attorneys
Of course, ethical action does not include winning a lawsuit at any cost. It is all about displaying your customer in the best possible light. There should be no expectation that attorneys will conduct unethically and so improperly. Rules have been written in a certain manner. We can follow the text or the spirit of the law, and we must enable (and expect) attorneys to do both.
3. Participation by Oneself
We don’t often consider how individuals engage with criminal justice professionals to be part of the ethical equation, but it is. We must take into account people’s desire to provide information and participate in the system. This encompasses anything from jury service to self-reporting of local criminal activities.
