The assignment asks you to write an essay in which you offer an
interpretation of a sequence (scene) using a close analysis of the shots that compose that sequence. You should draw on the examples delivered each week in the form of lectures. Your paper should be thesis driven, not a simple summary of the shots. That means that you must offer an interpretation of the sequence, not just describe it. You might start by asking what is this sequence trying to say and how is it trying to say it.
The final paper should contain screen grabs of individual shots that make up the sequence you are analyzing. These individual shots should be numbered sequentially.
Majority of the final paper should include a detailed analysis of the sequence you have chosen. It should also include, especially in the introduction and the final part of your paper, some interpretation of how the sequence relates to the film as a whole.
