Overview
Nine core competencies were compiled by the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF) to serve as standards for nurse practitioner (NP) programs. These rules aid in ensuring that NPs get the expertise required for the job.
All NP specialities and population focuses are under the purview of the basic competencies. A list of recommended curricular topics is provided for each competency to aid programs in providing their nursing students with the best possible education.
Although the NONPF does not mandate that schools follow its recommended curriculum, it does offer a road map that can help students become effective nurses.
The following nine key skills are described in-depth in this handbook, along with how they support professional NP practice and nursing curricula:
a scientific basis
Leadership
Quality
Exercise Inquiry
Information and Technology Literacy
Policy
