Question 1

Instruction

1. This assignment requires you to demonstrate skills and knowledge in planning and executing an analytics project using real-world data. To this end, you shall write a report on the analytics project based on a given dataset. Your report shall include key issues to be addressed, and present key results demonstrating the use of analytics to generate useful information.

2. Complete the following tasks:

a. Obtain the data

b. Create a report that contains the following pages:

Page 1: A cover page providing details of course code, course title, semester and year, your T group, your student ID and your name.
Page 2: It shall contain a high-resolution image of a poster that presents an analysis of the given dataset(s). It is recommended to create a portrait-oriented poster using a paper size of A3 or larger. When the poster is completed, save it as an image and then resize it to fit the A4-sized paper of the report. Saving the poster as an image can prevent distortions of any poster elements, which could happen if the poster is directly created within the ECA Word document. Using A3-sized paper for creating the final poster image ensures that it remains readable when zoomed in. Short bullet points are strongly encouraged for concise presentation. Also, the contents and appropriateness of graphical illustrations in the poster hold more importance than aesthetic appeal. Pages 3 to 4: Give a 600-word narrative of the poster, explaining key details of the poster presented on Page 2. It should be written in the form of a poster presentation script, as if you were explaining your work to an audience viewing your poster. No additional figures are allowed on these pages.
Page 5: List citations and references, following appropriate formatting guidelines.

c. Your submission must be original. Do not copy any content from any source (regardless of public or private). Failure to adhere to the word limit rules may result in mark deductions.

The poster should be succinct in words and use appropriate font sizes. In particular, it should not exceed 300 words in total. The poster should also include meaningfully crafted graphics and charts to illustrate key ideas

Ultimately, the entire poster should be intuitive enough for readers to grasp the project within three to five minutes. High-end software is not required to create high-resolution graphics. Instead, you can use MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint to create your poster. Just make sure that you capture the poster as an image and paste it to your final Word document that will be submitted via Canvas.

e. Please note that the assessment of your work will be based on the sections outlined in the following sub-questions (such as Introduction, Data Understanding and Preparation, etc.) There will be no separate marks allocated for the poster and the narrative, as they are intended to complement each other.

Question 1a

Introduction

This section should assess the data, analytics, and business aspects of the project. It should cover the following:

1. The business problem to be addressed using the given data.

Discovering unusual information/patterns in the data that are otherwise
not apparent through simple queries or data extractions
Providing unconventional forms of analyses that produce
thought-provoking results

While there are many possible analyses you can perform, it is recommended to be selective. It is better to present just one significant result than to give several smaller results that readers are already familiar with.

In your answer, appraise how the suggested analysis will help answer the question(s) mentioned in the Introduction section.

You should construct a professional analytics solution using one or more suitable software applications. Some examples of the software include Microsoft Excel, Tableau, or IBM SPSS Modeler.

Suggestion: This section should take up about 30-40% of the poster space. However, you have the flexibility to deviate from this guideline if you have valid reasons to do so.
