Application EHRs, EMRs, and PHRs: What Are They and How Do They Relate to Each Other? Electronic recordkeeping is a constantly evolving area of health informatics in which some conflicting perspectives exist as to the nature and scope of the technology that is specifically represented by each type of electronic record. As such, it is important for the health informatician to work to develop a clear understanding of what actually comprises an electronic health record, an electronic medical record, and a personal health record. To prepare for this Application Assignment, review the perspectives on the nature and functional structures of electronically recorded patient health data that were offered by the presenters in this week’s video. With these presenter viewpoints in mind, conduct a literature review in the Walden Library database to explore additional perspectives on the specifics of EHRs, EMRs, and PHRs, including the typical content and functionality of each. Finally, review the three evaluation criteria delineated in the “Application Assignment Rubric” provided in the Course Info area. Your work will be evaluated using all three of these criteria. Keeping in mind the literature that you researched, as well as the principles of scholarly writing and the three evaluation criteria that you reviewed, write a 2- to 3-page paper, describing the content and function(s) of electronic health records (EHRs), electronic medical records (EMRs), and personal health records (PHRs). As you distinguish between them, be sure to consider their similarities and their differences, as well as the nature of the interrelationship that exists between them. Submit your Application Assignment by Day 7. Your written assignments must follow APA guidelines. Be sure to support your work with specific citations from this week’s Resources and additional scholarly sources as appropriate. To ensure your in-text citations and reference list are correct, refer to APA Style: http://www.apastyle.org/.
