SPECIFIC DESCRIPTION OF ASSESSMENT 1 – INDIVIDUAL WRITTEN REPORT
Project Objective: Design and Develop an Innovative Digital Application – 3,000 Words (500 Words are Contextualisation linked with your learning outcomes).
Objectives
The assessment require students to critically engage with digital business concepts and apply them to real-world scenarios. This encourages deep learning and ensures that students not only understand the theoretical underpinnings of digital business but also how to apply these theories in practice where relevant to the students. Moreover, by allowing students to choose their own company or digital application project, the assessments cater to a wide range of interests and backgrounds, enhancing engagement and motivation. This flexibility supports personalised learning paths within the framework of the module’s objectives. The assessments are designed not only to evaluate academic knowledge but also to develop essential professional skills, including strategic planning, critical analysis, problem-solving, presentation skills, and the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
NOTE: You have a + or – 10% word count leeway; however if you feel you need to flesh out some parts please do tables, diagrams and also remember tables and diagrams are necessary for this type of report, regardless of word count.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION/STRUTURE: (Main points and sections to cover)
Description/Structure:
Students are required to create an innovative Digital App for an organisation, country, start up, industry sector, your own business either by introducing an entirely new app or by significantly enhancing an existing one. This development should address specific marketing and customer experience needs within the contemporary digital landscape and trends.
The project requires you to: (Main report 3,000 words)
(1) Choose either a large or small organization, a country, an industry sector, focusing on its products or services, customer experience offerings, industry sector commerce, and look at it in terms of the digital trends and transformation that we are all going through. You are actually free to choose your country, or an organisation you work for or wish to get hired by, or even focus on your own business to scale up or a start up who wish to start!
(2)You need to have strategic reasons for your choices – digital trends, market gap, very disruptive industry, company etc…no competition, need more commerce, need medical or healthcare, need social international connections, need agriculture, need sustainability, need retail refinements, need educational uplift, need new virtual technologies, no sharing systems, no, no customisation, or does not really exist in a digital space???
(3) Focus on Innovation ensuring that – for example a digital app – your digital app is unique or a major improvement on an existing one – usually the improvement would be by way of your strategic thoughts and the introduction and elevation of the App you choose through very modern cutting edge technologies – AR, VR, AI, Metaverse .
(4) Provide a clear justification based on marketing strategies and customer experience improvements in the digital domain. Or why and how are filling a need in your country, industry, company etc.
(5) Develop a comprehensive strategic rationale for your organisation and app, detailing why it was chosen and how it aligns /deepens with the company’s goals and market needs. Understand the digital trends that impose changes and disruption these impose. App development strategies should support overall, country goals, industry sector goals, business goals and establish a comprehensive course of action to match the strategic direction.
With this, you’ll visualize and create the right apps.
(6) Provide a Benefits Analysis, explaining the advantages your digital app would offer to the organisation, its marketing, its supply chain, or its customers. This may include impacts on user engagement, market positioning, and competitive advantage, or an impact of having filled an amazing gap in a sector, and any relevant advantages for your country, organisation, industry, consumers underserved….Can it be commercialised, how|? Remember Digital Transformation is hard – An App can help immensely.
(7) Conclusion – Just a summary of your report in 1 or 2 paras.
(8) Some future recommendations – for example: use your imagination (out of the box thinking!) plus actual digital trends knowledge to reimagine your world in 2030 as an example. Some recommendations do not have to be so projectable in the future, they can be more immediate; ie. the CX in the future, supply chain ecosystems, sustainability, more of digital virtual world/markets, better personalisation of customers. Remember employers will often ask your views about also how you think the digital space may develop.
