The assignment is a change plan essay of 3000 words for an aspect of organisational and/or personal development drawing on module learning and experience from the current or previous placement. • Students will critically analyse management, change and organisations within the current context of the social work profession. Specific Assessment Criteria: • Describe an organisation for which you worked drawing on the theories of organisation, management and theories of social work covered in this module • Using theories of change management and reflection describe an area of your practice and the organisation/professional practice you consider could be changed. • Identify and analyse any barriers to change which might need to be overcome, drawing on and incorporating theories of organisational change, social policy and reflection. • Critically analyse the social work theories you consider underpin this area of practice and the methods and interventions used. • Provide an explanation for and critical discussion of your change plan and the specific changes and improvements it aims to achieve. This should include a discussion of your own professional development and your reflections on this and your own learning during the module. Workshop/seminars will utilise current practice experience in the context of a range of social work theoretical approaches in support of the concurrent practice placement. Teaching, learning and assessment strategies will reflect the module ethos, that is, to promote participatory and experiential learning. Topic presentations (lecture style) will introduce students to the context and principles of leadership. Visiting speakers will be invited according to knowledge and expertise. Student-focused activities, in groups and independently, will encourage critical thinking regarding organisations, management and change and will provide the opportunity for students to develop their knowledge, skills and capabilities at both an individual and collective level. Autonomy in learning development will be expected; students will undertake a wide degree of self-directed learning in addition to making use of the texts and materials identified within each session of the module. The use of the internet will be encouraged as a central feature of current information sources. Students will be encouraged to use the Virtual Learning Environment (Blackboard): lecture notes, topic resources and interactive learning tools found therein will aid independent learning. Supported by access to email, phone and individual face contact with lecturers, students will need to demonstrate an ability to study module topics systematically and critically, in addition to communicating ideas clearly
