Give an in depth review of how the biomaterials are used, why its used, describe its applications, its properties potential problems, methods used, conclusion. Some examples of topics student have used previously include “Single Biomaterials vs. Hybrid Biomaterials on Patients Who Have Undergone Total Knee Arthroplasty/Hip Joint Arthroplasty Using Polyetheretherketone, Cobalt Chromium and Titanium Alloys”, “Augmenting Tendon-to-Bone Healing Using Protein-Impregnated Biodegradable Biomaterials”, and “Functionalized Chitosan Micro/Nanospheres for Colon Targeting Drug Delivery”. Please do not use these exact topics. You can pick whatever topic you want as long as it has relation to biomaterials.
The essay must be formatted like this:
Abstract
Introduction
Discussion
Conclusion
It must include 10 references and be ten pages long MLA FORMAT ( Double spaced, Size 12 font)
This is the rubric that the professor sent out and all the information you need about requirements:
Objective A scientific literature review gives you the opportunity to explore a topic in depth, synthesize information from various sources, and put the information together in a new way. A REVIEW IS NOT A BOOK REPORT. The assignment is NOT to simply report what is known about a given subject or to summarize several articles in a given field. A review is a creative exercise like taking a photograph – you are not creating the content, but you are creating the perspective. You will choose what information to include and what to omit. You will frame the thesis by bringing important points to the foreground and placing others in the background. You will be required to hand in the following materials (see dates in syllabus): • Thesis Statement with at least ten primary references in the proper format • Final written review – An electronic version should be handed in on the deadline in the syllabus. • All documents will be submitted electronically on Canvas (.doc or .docx ONLY) so they can be checked by turnitin.com to make sure you are not inadvertently copying too much from other sources. Requirements General notes/guidelines for developing a review article • Your review article should be 10 pages long, excluding your bibliography • Please download and utilize EndNote to organize your references and ensure you are using a correct (and complete!) citation method. • You are required to use at least 5 primary references in your review. You might wonder: What’s the difference between a primary research article and a review article? Research articles report on original research. Review articles, sometimes called literature reviews, synthesize or analyze research already conducted in primary sources. They generally summarize the current state of research on a given topic. Rule 1: Define a Topic The topic is a critical aspect of a successful literature review. Think about your target and narrow your topic. Make sure your thesis is: • Specific and addresses a question/problem in the field • Interesting and understandable to you
• Your own unique idea
• Relevant to all the articles you include • Clearly stated in (at least) the abstract and conclusion Rule 2: Search and Re-search the Literature After choosing your topic, start by checking the literature and downloading relevant papers. Use EndNote for this so that your bibliography will be in order. Rule 3: Take Notes While Reading If you read the papers first, and only afterwards start writing the review, you will need a very good memory to remember who wrote what, and what your impressions and associations were while reading each single paper. While reading, start writing down interesting pieces of information, insights about how to organize the review, and thoughts on what to write. DO NOT COPY FROM THE SOURCE MATERIAL. Rule 4: Have Structure Your scientific literature review should include a title, abstract, introduction, discussion, and bibliography.
