As local geneticists/oncologist, it is your job to research information regarding the various types of cancers and genetic disorders and inform the public of these cancers/disorders that may be inherited. Below you will find a list of genetic disorders to research. After selecting a cancer OR genetic disorder that interests you (and has been approved by the instructor), you will create a Public Service Announcement (PSA) via video or voice narration about that cancer/disorder. Requirements of the PSA: 1. Description of the type of cancer or genetic disorder. What is it? Where is it found
most? (demographic, gender, etc. of those most impacted if applicable) 2. Explanation of how the cancer is formed and of the mode of inheritance and gene
responsible for the disorder: determine if your disorder is autosomal dominant, autosomal recessive, X-linked recessive, chromosomal error, etc.
3. What are the signs and symptoms? 4. How is it diagnosed? 5. How is it treated? 6. Explanation of the current research done with patients with the cancer/disorder.
What ‘new drugs’, ‘new therapies, or other innovations are associated with the cancer/disorder.
7. Promotion of disorder: are there any celebrities/famous people with the disease or who had the disease? Are there any special events related to the disease? Explain
8. Use proper grammar and no spelling errors. 9. Cite your reliable sources. At least one should be a primary source.
