Essay Assignment:
Use the writing process to write an argumentative research essay that is six (6) paragraphs to convince readers to accept your point of view (your position on an issue).
Your paper should be a SIX paragraph essay:
Introduction- one paragraph with a hook, background info, and topic statement (8-10 sentences)
Body- three supporting paragraphs, each with a topic sentence that supports your thesis. Each should include correctly cited research from a credible source. (each 10 sentences minimum)
Opposing Views- one paragraph that gives opposing viewpoints; then you must respectfully explain why your opposition is wrong.
Conclusion- one paragraph consisting of a summary and a final thought. (8-10 sentences)
Guidelines
Topics:
Choose a topic that can be argued/debated and that is interesting or meaningful to you. Consider controversial topics which may affect us locally or a current international/ global topic that you are very interested and invested in.
If you cannot think of your own topic, see the instructor for assistance. Remember your audience and that this is your culminating assignment for your college writing course; your topic will directly reflect your ability to think critically.
You may not write about: abortion, gay marriage, gay adoption, creationism/evolution, and prayer in public school.
Research
Use a minimum of 4 credible, scholarly sources. Two (or more) of these sources should be from the CPCC online databases (ProQuest). You must include correct in-text citations and a Works Cited page.
Using Correct MLA Style:
Make sure your essay is in Times New Roman, 12-point font with 1-inch margins.
