Choose and attend a 12-Step Meeting that is utilized by individuals for continued recovery support. You will attend an open Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meeting. As an alternative, you may also attend a Celebrate Recovery meeting at a church. Meetings can be located online via a web-search or on the respective websites of AA and NA. Meetings may take place either online or in-person. Please be mindful that, as a guest, you may only attend Open Meetings.
The purpose of this assignment is for you to gain experiential and didactic knowledge of what is involved in the recovery process. After attending the 12-Step meeting, you will write a two- to three-page (not including title page or references) reflection of your experience. This assignment is to be written in APA format, but you will write in first person, as it is your personal experience.
Please include the following elements in your paper:
Introduction
Indicate the 12-step meetings that you attended, including such orienting information as the type of meeting, date, the location of the meeting, the number and demographics of the meeting attendees (without giving any identifiable personal information about the attendees), how long the meeting was, and what it involved.
Description of Your Experiences
Describe your thoughts and feelings (a) before the meeting, (b) during the meeting, and (c) following the meeting.
What I Learned
Include a brief description of what you learned about the 12-step recovery process. Connect your learning experience to Scripture and/or a biblical theme that resonates with you as you reflect on your learning from this experience.
Summary
Briefly summarize what you are taking away from this experience and how it may or may not assist you in conducting addictions counseling with clients who are in the recovery process.
