Project Description
General Idea
The purpose of the project is to create a console-based library management system. A user will be able to login using their credentials (email and password) either as an admin (librarian) or a simple user. A menu with all available options will then be available to the user (different of course for librarians and simple users) so as to manage book entries, borrow books, manage user records etc.
For the implementation, all students should apply all aspects of Object-Oriented design and implementation as well as best practices for development in general (modular programming, comments for classes and functions, code testing etc.). These details will be taken into consideration for calculating your final grade.
System Entities
After an initial requirement analysis the following entities have been recognized:
Person (Abstract Class)
- The users of our system. A person has the following attributes: name, surname, email, password, address, and phone number.
- The password must be at least 8 characters.
- Two people cannot have the same email.
Librarian
- A subclass of Person.
- Librarians are the managers of the library, responsible for book and user management. They are also the ones that lend out the book to the users.
- You can find more information about the class methods in the UML diagram.
User
- A subclass of Person used to model the members of the library.
- Users can borrow books.
- A User cannot borrow two copies of the same book at the same time.
- A User can only have borrowed 3 books at the same time.
- You can find more information about the class methods in the UML diagram.
Author
- Authors have the following attributes: name, last name and a short biography.
Book
- A book has the following attributes: title, author, genre, description, total number of copies and available number of copies.
Loan
- A loan, which records when a user has borrowed a book, has the following attributes: The book that was loaned, the user that borrowed it, the librarian that received the request, the issued date, the number of days that the book is loaned, the date that the book should be returned by, and the actual return date.
