Senior nurse Adesina had delegated( arranged) a meeting with patient Bob to John, a final year student nurse on placement(is John experienced enough to conduct and lead a meeting with a patient by himself, skills that he may have?). Student nurse John arrived late for duty(Poor punctuality, not responsible for appointments- how does that reflect on the nurse?)(third time this week) and patient Bob was waiting for him in the waiting room(Bad practice, vulnerable individual that has to wait for unprofessional code of conduct). After the meeting, student nurse John reported to senior nurse Adesina that he had a nice chat with (Does the student have the necessary skills to conduct an interview, has he participated in a mental health assessment before, does the nurse know the level of the student competency to conduct the interview?)Bob and that his mental health appeared stable( did the student go into depth, asked relevant questions- give examples, was the student able to get ready for the meeting although he came late, did the student review previous information about BOB), although he was not sleeping (Found one type of referred information that is the same)patient Bob said to John that he was enjoying his new college life and living away from home.
Adesina was concerned that the student nurse’s feedback and impression of patient Bob, is very different from the patient’s mother(The nurse is right to be concerned about the student’s feedback because it’s very different from what the mother has reported). Adesina wants to collaborate with Bob’s mother but does not wish to breach Bob’s right to confidentiality. Patient Bob told the nurses that he has not been getting on with his parents in recent months and does not want his mental health care discussed with his family.( Look for more information about confidentiality)In speaking to Bob’s mother, Adesina knows nurses can normally only share patient information with relatives and family members if this has been agreed and consented to by the patient.
