Section I: Reflections on Practice
This section of the portfolio focuses on your personal reflections on aspects of your practice experience working creatively and collaboratively with a group of adults with intellectual disabilities.
These reflective exercises are grouped under 4 topic areas:
Topic One: Communications Skills
Discuss how you modified and adapted communication methods and styles, including verbal and non-verbal methods to suit the needs of the individual service user(s) that you worked with this semester. Please give detailed examples from practice and include clear, concise, accurate, and objective documentation of the practical classes to support your views.
Topic Two: Group Work and Facilitation Skills
Explain the principles and dynamics of group work in diverse settings, and evaluate the use of facilitation techniques to improve outcomes and enhance service user participation in social care work.
Part 1:
Identify some of the main challenges in managing groups.
Part 2:
Describe strategies that can be used to create and strengthen empowering partnerships between service users, their relatives/carers, and other professionals in planning and evaluating goals, treatments, and interventions.
Draw upon your own direct experience of approaches taken to the inclusive arts project as well as relevant literature to inform your thinking.
